I started this blog on my 80th birthday, 22 April 2009. Mostly this blog is the result of mining my hard drive, which contains stuff I have written dating back to 1939. (No, I didn't have a hard drive back then, but I have since keyed in hard copy.). I have been trying to include a variety of kinds of content. Categories now include: autobiography, drama, economics, essay, fable, futures studies, humor, poetry, politics, satire, short stories, and stuff to think about.

Some notes that call for exposition:
* Reality is an illusion; illusion is also an illusion.
* I intend to complete this life busy, like a flower, exhaling the sweet scent of lovingkindness.
* We are not conscious; we only think we are.
* The limit to complete knowledge of the universe is transcended by being concurrently in two different universes, each modeling the other.
* Evolution shaped how we construct reality so as to emphasize what we need for survival and de-emphasize what is survival-irrelevant, such as non-locality.
* Life and quantum entanglement both requirement negative entropy, i.e., information storage, which requires negative feedback for homeostasis maintenance.
* Maintaining homeostasis requires sensors that are shielded from the system that receives and interprets their sensory input, so the system can without self-deception answer the question: What's happening?
* Maintaining homeostasis is favored by a system that uses past (stored) information and present input to anticipate the future, to answer the question: What next?
* Maintaining homeostasis is also favored by a system that accurately evaluates the relevance of past information, present input, and anticipations of the future, i.e., accurately answers the question: How important?
* Maintaining homeostasis is also favored by a system that has preferences for actions that tend to preserve homeostasis, i.e., that cares about its survival, that has preferences.
* Maintaining homeostasis is also favored by a system that can make survival-favoring choices.
* Maintaining homeostasis is also favored by a system that chooses among alternative actions, choosing those that it anticipates as most likely to lead to futures it prefers.

About Me

My photo
West Hartford, Connecticut, United States
I have taught in college or university departments of business, computer science, economics, management, mathematics, psychology, public administration, social science, social work, and statistics. Research interests include development of computer programs for analyzing an individual's semantic space, laying the groundwork for intercommunication about "private" affect; interactions of mind, body, and universe. I have about 200 professional publications and papers at major scientific meetings. Current projects include: participation in and support of practice and study of Nonviolent Communication, helping organize and support Network of Spritual Progressive activities, participation in prostate cancer support, and participation in Kehilat Chaverim, a volunteer cooperative rabbi-less and synagogue-less Jewish congregation. I am currently writing a new gender-neutral and non-tribal Jewish prayer book.
